Mike's 13km Thames Marathon Swim

I'm fundraising for the future of hospitality.

The Thames Marathon Swim, Henley to Marlow, 13km and i'll be swimming it, 11th August 2024.

I'm attempting Raise Money for 2 great causes, here I'm raising money for The Burnt Chef Project, an organisation set up to tackle mental health stigma in the hospitality industry. It's something very close to my heart and I would love your support!


This is also raising a flag for my teams at Cubitt House and the part they play in making Hospitality a better place to work.

I spend much of my time at work with Cubitt House checking in on the teams and making sure they are in the Happy or at least reasonably content!

Ensuring they are in the right place and have the right tools to do the job, and that they all able to succeed in doing a great job in what can be a very challenging industry.

Training for the Marathon Swim

First Blog Post,
Training focused.

I have tried to stick to a fairly simple training regime of 3 swims a week, to help maintain consistent and discipline.

Overcomplicating can lead to unnecessary failure.

Using a periodic method, 3 blocks of 4 weeks to steadily increase the workload with rest weeks to allow the gains to embed and body to recover, 
Over the years, learning to recover properly has always been a challenge.


General weekly structure.
1: Fast interval swim
2: Long Swim, with minimal rest 1km sets for 2/3/4km, increasing every week
3: Random set of whatever feels good, E.G.  8 x 400m progressing

This week should have been a rest week, but due to running the pub in the park event next week, I delayed and designated that a rest week, as training will need to take a back seat for that week
