Great North Run 2023

Wednesday 10th May
Deciding to take on the Great North Run for the Burnt Chef Project was a huge decision for me. I've battled with my own mental health issues and have scars, both physical and emotional, to show for it. But I wanted to push myself and step outside of my comfort zone, both for personal growth and to support a great cause.

I'm not a runner by any means, and I've had surgeries on my right knee and arthritis in my right side. I even came close to losing my left leg at one point. But I knew that I had to do this, to challenge myself and to raise awareness for the Burnt Chef Project. It's a cause that's close to my heart, as someone who has worked in the hospitality industry and has seen firsthand the toll that it can take on mental health.

South Shields, my home town and the end point of the Great North Run, is a town with a proud heritage and a history of resilience. Many famous people have come from this town, including Sarah Millican, Chris Ramsey, Sir Ridley Scott and Chef John Williams. It's a place that's known for its ability to overcome adversity, and I feel a connection to that as someone who has overcome my own struggles.

With the help of my trainer, Michael Purdie, I'm determined to cross the finish line and to make a difference for the Burnt Chef Project. It's a huge step for me personally, but I know that it's worth it to support a cause that's so important. I'm ready to take on this challenge and to push myself to new heights.
